Making your own cleaning products is a great way to save money and the planet. Here are some of our favourites.
Disinfectant:
• Add 10 drops of tea tree oil to 1 litre of white vinegar
• Decant into a spray bottle
• Spray onto surfaces and wipe off with a clean cloth
Window cleaner:
• Mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with 1 litre of water
• Using white vinegar stops streaks and grease build-up on glass
Remove lime residue:
• Electric jugs and irons build up lime deposits over time.
• Fill then with white vinegar and turn them on
• Turn off before rinsing
• Fill with fresh water and turn on again
Drain cleaner:
• Boil 2 cups of white vinegar and pour down the drain a small amount at a time.
• Allow the vinegar to sit in the drain for 5-10 minutes before pouring a pot of boiling water down.
• Alternatively pour ½ cup of baking soda followed by ½ cup of warm white vinegar down the drain.
• Cover and allow leave for 5-10 minutes before running cold water down the drain.
Oven cleaner:
• Put orange peel and vinegar in a jar and leave in the fridge for 5 days, decant into a spray bottle
• Sprinkle the surface areas with baking soda, then spray with the orange peel/vinegar mix
• Leave for 20 minutes
• Wipe off with a cloth
• Repeat if needed
Mould killer:
• Mix 70% white vinegar and 30% water in a spray bottle
• Spray on the mould
• Leave for 30 minutes
• Wipe off
